Art and design have always been related, but within this blog; documentation, experimentation, personal expression and experiences are the name of the game.
Since the summer of 2016, while on my lunch breaks (while day-dreaming), as an intern at ESPN 980 I after became inspired (Definitely from re-watching Grandma’s Boy & Indie Game: The Movie the night before) to begin learning game programming, design & development. I researched various game design platforms until I found which one suited me the best. Then, I went all in on this passion, watching hundreds of YouTube Videos + tutorials, documentaries, and I even purchased a Game Design + Development For Dummies book. Over these past 5 years I’ve been quietly working on (2) game projects in my spare time. I intend on releasing both projects sometime this year under my Indie game development studio, Raremind Artworks.
I initially intended on naming my imprint Rated Arcade but, after I began the trademark process, legal action ensued due to the confusion of Motion Picture Association of America’s (MPAA) movie rating system, Rated R. After, brainstorming for weeks I came up with Raremind Artworks. I felt that the name stood out enough to not cause confusion with any other companies and it didn’t follow the generic “______________ Games”, name.
The Raremind Artworks idea originated from influences I got from the “Golden Age” of arcade games (Retro 8-16 bit aesthetic) + the indie game movement. RA is a statement on the importance of using your unique intellect to create & bring your ideas to life through artistic expression. I even later followed in Nintendo footsteps and formed a couple of subsidiary divisions under the RA umbrella: Raremind Artworks Sports (RA Sports) & Raremind Artworks Virtual Reality (RAVR) which I intend on releasing projects under in the near future.
When I started this blog my intentions were to document my game design + development progress just so I could look back years later and see just how far I’ve come within this new challenge that I always wanted to explore. This blog is a public journal documenting the beginning of my game design + development journey and beyond.
